Maleny Dairies

In McCarthy Rd, Maleny, there's a dairy with a difference. As in, it's set up as a little tourist attraction. You can tour the factory, feed the calves, enjoy a very relaxed outdoor morning tea or lunch, and generally get a feel for the old-fashioned dairy farm that it isn't any more. You get to buy all kinds of milk products too, including your actual Maleny milk, swimming with actual cream even.

We'll be back there soon to do the factory tour proper, and to stock up with more yummy stuff.

Choice Coastal Cafes #5: Mountain View Cafe at Mary Cairncross, Maleny

This is the one with the million dollar views. The food's good too, as I discovered today.

And as a bonus, it's attached to the Mary Cairncross Reserve in Maleny, whose rainforest walk is possibly the best curated tourist nature trail I've ever seen. See also here: earlier post

Mary Cairncross Reserve

Maleny has quite a few attractions. Quite the place in many ways. I checked out the Mary Cairncross Reserve yesterday, and wasn't disappointed.

It's not just a park or patch of rainforest with public access. It's got an excellent little network of easy walks, all well curated with educational signage etc. It's got a very fine little visitor centre too, a treetop walk, a cafe, and last but not least, magnificent views of the Glass House Mountains.

The Maleny Trail

A strangely civilised 6km walking trail, starting near Maleny Woolworths, heading north and east through almost English-style countryside.

Then looping around the golf course.

Soon it's through bits of scenic forest, and clever sculptures and things

You follow the Obi Obi Creek for a while. If you're me, you completely miss the platypus viewing platform, despite that being what inspired you to come here originally. And there's a bat colony somewhere in there too.

Herding ducks

The sheep dog trials at the Maleny Show involved ducks rather than sheep, I noticed. All much the same, I guess. It was a very pleasant little outing to 'the Sunshine Coast hinterland's premier agricultural show' the other day. There were other fairground attractions too, including an excellent dodgem car experience!

Lots of hot weather lately, and the schoolkids are late going back to school. Wonder what they get up to? Wonder no more!

Looks great. Wish I'd brought my togs!
