Choice Coastal Cafes #13: High Tide

As the name suggests, it's near the beach. In fact it's one of several on The Esplanade at Mudjimba.

There seem to be two Mudjimbas. There's this one, sometimes called  Mudjimba Beach, and then there's the newer(?) one on the main road a bit to the north. I call  that one 'Airport Mudjimba', being next to the airport, and far less scenic. It's got some unexplored cafes too though.

Anyway, High Tide cafe had location going for it, and ambience. Maybe a bit much ambience with the school holiday crowd. The eggs Benedict sauce was a sticking point for this Benedict afficionado. It usually works best when they stick to a mass-produced commercial sauce. Sometimes the local chef can make an improvement. But often not.

I'll be back there again though.

Must be school holidays again

The beaches are crowded again. It must be school holidays! This was Cotton Tree at sunset today.

Choice Coastal Cafes #11: Sweet and Flour Bakery Cafe

It's in Nambour, in what used to be the manager's house of the sugar mill that used to operate there. A very nice spot.

My Great! Sunday walk

I've explored bits of the Sunshine Coast Great! Walk before. Track closures due to flood damage prevented me doing the first section properly though: Baroon Pocket Dam to Kondalilla Falls.

Yesterday I took advantage of the good weather and the patched up track, and off I went.

It's a bit under 20km to do the return walk, including the loop around Kondalilla Falls, and there are a few hundred metres of ascents and descents. I was keen to check that my joints and muscles were still up to it, what with some recent 'mobility issues' dating back I think to my Covid episode of a few months ago. (I'd hate to end up like the Queen, at least not just yet.)

Here's the destroyed bridge near the start, officially by-passed now with a sandbag walkway.

This gallivanting goanna caused a bit of a stir at the picnic area at the top of the falls.

Choice Coastal Cafes #10: The Old Court House (aka Urban Garden)

We've been meaning to check this one out for a while, but it's been hard to find a nearby parking spot!

Probably not just for the cafe, but it's at the busy Maroochydore end of Cotton Tree, and it often seems to be full of lawyers, police officers, and hapless victims of the justice system!

It was worth the wait though. It's an interesting place. It's just along the road from the new law courts and the very big police headquarters. And more to the point, the coffee was good, and the breakfast toast was cheap (though you had to toast it yourself).

We'll be back!
