Circumnavigating Currimundi Lake

I didn't think it was possible when I set out this morning. On previous visits it had looked like the outlet to the sea was going to be permanently under water. But no, today the sea was lower, and the beach was continuous.

It's then a pleasant six kilometre stroll around the lake.

I didn't encounter any unexploded ammunition.

Sunny Coast Bushwalkers

My first outing today with the Sunshine Coast Bushwalkers. A very fine group of people.

As with many bushwalking clubs, before you can become a member you have to prove yourself by doing three easy walks. A bit of a pain, but that's how it goes.

Today's walk was a part-circumnavigation of the Ewen Maddock Dam. So it was largely flat and on fire trails. But it's always good to be out, and the company was excellent.

Beside the seaside in Scarborough and Redcliffe

They're outer north eastern suburbs of Brisbane, and they have a rather quaint old fashioned English seaside feel about them. Rather different from the Sunshine Coast, we thought.

More Glass House walking - 2: Mt Beerburrum summit

Not that big a climb, but it's a bit of a slog up a steep concrete path most of the way.

At the top you get to see the view from the fire tower, and it's a good one.

More Glass House walking - 1: Mt Beerwah's base circuit

Some very muddy fire trails, some good views of the Glass House's highest peak, and a bit of adventure when I strayed off track towards the end of the circuit. All in all a pleasant morning's walk.

Paddling around the shopping centre, feeding the fish.

As you do.

This was at Maroochydore's enormous Sunshine Plaza centre. $9 per person for 20 minutes in a paddle boat. Fish food provided.

Spiderlily

I associate it with South East Queensland, but it's originally from South America. It's Hymenocallis speciosa, the green-tinge spiderlily and it's everywhere round here.

Target or camouflage?

I was very taken by these 'Target Fish', also known as Crescent Grunter (Terapon jarbua), in Lake Kawana yesterday. At first I thought I was looking at the ripple pattern at the centre of a surface disturbance. But no, it's a fish. So is it camouflage or target?

Walking Mooloolah River National Park

This one was a bit of a disappointment, unless there's another part to the park that I've yet to discover. It's very flat of course, being wetlands, and for the same reasons it's also wet!

I was the only one walking there this morning. I got wet feet, and saw little in the way of wildlife. One butterfly, in fact. A very good looking butterfly.

Walking Mountain Creek

Mountain Creek is both a suburb and a creek (a wide and tidal one just here). It's not very mountainous though.

It has some good little walking tracks around lakes and through a forest reserve, so it makes for one more good early morning walk destination.

More auctioneering

I've attended a few more Buderim auctions. Not ready to buy yet, but it's always an education. This one was the second that day to be 'paused' and passed in, with none of the real bids from those present being enough to outweigh the conditional offers we were told were waiting in the wings.

The conditional offers are said to generally be from developers, awaiting development permissions.

Pincushion Island

I went to explore Pincushion Island this morning. It's the pincushion-shaped lump at the mouth of the Maroochy River.

The river used to flow out to sea to its north, but a few years ago it all got rearranged, and now the river flows to the south, and you can usually walk across the sand from the northern dog beach, accessed via Mudjimba.

Don't know why so many of the area's very best beaches are dog beaches. But they are. Dogs can usually make do with any old beach. They're only interested in each other after all. I was the only person out there today without a dog. It was a bit like being on a nude beach and not being nude!

Maleny's Gardners Falls

Lots of hot weather lately, and the schoolkids are late going back to school. Wonder what they get up to? Wonder no more!

Looks great. Wish I'd brought my togs!

Palmwoods Park: turtles & ducks of distinction
